Billboard has revealed the top Hot 100 songs and the top 200 albums of 2018, and Syracuse-born rapper Post Malone made the top 10 on both -- multiple times. Malone's 2016 debut "Stoney," featuring the hit song "Congratulations," and his 2018 album "Beerbongs & Bentleys," were both among the top 10 best-selling albums this year. The latter included two No. 1 hits, "Rockstar" (feat. 21 Savage) and "Psycho" (feat. Ty Dolla $ign), plus two other songs in the top 20: "Better Now" and "Ball for Me" (feat. Nicki Minaj). Much of Malone's success comes from streaming -- "Beerbongs" was certified platinum when it debuted at No. 1 in May with 461,000 equivalent album sales, though only 153,000 copies were in traditional album sales. But he's an artist that understands how today's music is consumed and counted; 1,500 on-demand audio streams of a song counts as one song sale, and the RIAA considers 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams as equivalent to 10 track sales or 1 album sale.
Malone, who was born Austin Post in Syracuse and lived in Central New York until he was 9 years old, also had a big year through other accolades. He performed at the MTV Video Music Awards with Aerosmith, broke a 54-year record held by the Beatles (most songs in top 20 simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; he had nine) and broke Michael Jackson's "Thriller" record for most weeks on the Top R&B and Hip-Hop Albums chart ("Stoney" hit 77 weeks).
